Three in fight for final berth

By Nodley Wright, Staff Reporter

THE FINAL set of matches in the second round of the Craven A National Premier League football competition sees three teams still with a chance of advancing to the end of round final.

All games begin at 3:30 p.m.

Bidding to join the home and dry Tivoli Gardens in the final are Harbour View, Village United and Hazard United. Of the three, Harbour View, who meet Village United at the Elletson Wakeland football field, appear to have the best chance.

Village United have the least chance of making it through as they would need to beat Harbour View handsomely to offset an inferior goal difference.

Harbour View have 16 points and could get the nod with just a draw as they have a superior goal difference to Hazard United - the next team in contention.

Hazard are on 14 points and need to beat Wadadah and do so heavily at the Spanish Town Prison Oval. If Hazard fail to achieve a berth in the final it would mark the second successive round where they put themselves in a good position in the opening games only to falter towards the end.

While most ears will be leaned towards the games in which the contenders are engaged, most eyes will head for Up Park Camp to watch the Garden party. The red hot Tivoli Gardens will take on last round's winners and standard bearers Arnett Gardens.

A game between the two rivals is always a combustible affair. Today should be no different. The last time the teams met Tivoli were leading 2-0 and having their way with their opponents before play was brought to a sudden halt by a disturbance caused by spectators.

With the likes of Walter Boyd, Fabian Davis, Adonis Maxwell set to take the field for Arnett Gardens and Christopher Nicholas, Roland Dean, Marco McDonald and possibly Dwayne Richards to suit up for Tivoli, the action should be hot.

The round's fifth game between Waterhouse and Duhaney Park will be played tomorrow at Constant Spring.
