The PNP's staying power

THE EDITOR, Sir:

BEING IN office for going on 13 years, the PNP should by now be looking very 'stale' to the electorate.

Further, the feature of their stewardship has been a general malaise in virtually every aspect of our lives.

These include: the high crime rate; the terrible state of our roads; the disrepair and lack of supplies in our hospitals, police stations, and courthouses; the rampant corruption and scandals that are daily unfolding; the unbelievable arrogance and lack of respect shown to our people.

Yet, amazingly, even after these debacles in their governance, the PNP is still running 'neck and neck' with the JLP in the polls. Attempting to analyse this madness, I can only come up with five possible reasons:

1. There is deep affection for the PNP and/or they are brilliant at selling their issues.

2 There is deep disaffection with the JLP and/or they are inept at selling their issues.

3. The political naiveté of our voters.

4. The issue of colour Patterson being black and Seaga being white.

5. The polls do not properly reflect the intentions of our people.

Does the answer lie in any or these? What say you?

I am etc.,

JOHN RUSSELL
