THE EDITOR, Sir:
I FEEL compelled to comment on a story aired by TVJ at 7 p.m. on Monday, February 4, 2002, in which so-called middle class young men were breaking the law, via big speed car racing on the roads.
My congratulations to the policemen for doing their job without partiality, but must ask why did they take so long to act? I must play devil's advocate here by stating had a similar situation occurred within our so-called inner cities, perhaps the entire police force would have been on the scene way before citizens began complaining.
The parents of those guys who were unceremoniously dumped in our living-room, via TVJ cannot feel very proud. Their cavalier attitude towards the law officers who were only doing their job, as well as attempts to obstruct the officers in the execution of their duty, is cause for alarm.
I cry shame on those spectators who appear to be condoning this illegal activity.
God forbid that an ambulance or a motorist is on an emergency run wanted to use the road at the same these idlers are using the road as a race track. This madness must stop!
Once again congrats TVJ for allowing us to see first-hand the behaviour of some of our 'sons of gentry' as they flout the law. Congrats again, too, to those law officers who made me proud by upholding the law.
I am, etc.,
