Plaudits for the police

THE EDITOR, Sir:

AS ONE who must drive along Hope Road every day, I wish to commend the Police on their recent intervention in the matter of drag racing in that vicinity.

To my mind the Police acted with restraint and professionalism in their performance and no one should be able to accuse them of 'police brutality.' It was obvious that these bright young Jamaicans could not differentiate between 'enjoying themselves' and breaking the law.

I would also like to suggest that those gentlemen of the motor racing fraternity who offered to make their facilities available to these young racing enthusiasts, should be commended. That is the kind of mentoring and guidance that our young people need from the more experienced and knowledgeable in the society.

We can only hope that the young people will respond positively and still find the thrill and enjoyment that they naturally seek.

I am, etc.,

ELSIE SAYLE
