St Catherine-based A League teams Rivoli and Central Link ended the trend of upsetting runs by parish representatives in the second round of the Jamaica National Federation Cup Knock Out football competition.
On a day when A League competitors Mount Salem and Village United of the National Premier League fell to less fancied teams, the Spanish Town teams held their heads high with convincing wins. Playing away, Central Link stopped St Mary's Yellow Stars 3-1 at Clembhard's Park while a hat trick from Shawn Simpson and a goal from Patrick Beech - all in the first half - condemned Hanover's Waterworks to a 4-0 defeat.
In an all parish representatives matchup, Naggo Head registered the biggest win of the day, slamming Whitfield Town 5-0. Sheldon Hopkins, Leighton Barrett, Patrick Edmondson, Christopher Harris and Nicholas Williams were the goalscorers.
Hill Stars were 3-1 winners over Lewis Strikers in another game involving two parish representatives.
At the Spanish Town Prison Oval, the home team despite not playing to their full potential outclassed their opponents, especially in the first half. Even when they were down to 10 men with the 62nd minute ejection of Marlon Allen for two bookable offences, Waterworks looked incapable of making use of their extra man.
Rivoli were guilty of not paying any respect to their opponents as after ending the first half 4-0, their second half play lacked focus and was centred more around gallery than purpose.
