Cornwall, St. James through to KO final

By Paul A. Reid, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU:

DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Cornwall College and first-time finalists St James High will contest Saturday's final of the Ben Francis Knockout competition at Jarrett Park following big wins in yesterday's semi-finals.

Cornwall romped to a 5-1 victory over Glenmuir High at Frome Sports Ground while St. James High thrashed St. Thomas Technical 4-0 at Drax Hall to set up the first final between Montego Bay schools.

Jeffery Campbell and Garnet Allen gave St. James High a 2-0 halftime lead while Omar Campbell and Alton Shaw added two more in the second half.

The game at Frome was a dress rehearsal for the December 1 Pepsi/Sports Plus daCosta Cup final but the Montego Bay team made up for its 2-2 draw in the first game between both teams played at Elleston-Wakeland Community Centre a few weeks ago. Deshaun Woolery and defender Rohan Bernard scored for Cornwall in the first half while Kirkland Smith, Oniel Foster and Garrick Gordon scored for Cornwall. Substitute Stephon Bartley scored Glenmuir's lone goal.

The coaches in that game were surprised by the wide margin.

Glenmuir's Glendon Hutchinson had no excuse for his team's loss and said they simply played bad. He said however that they did not pay too much attention to the Ben Francis, as their intention was to win the daCosta Cup.

Cornwall's Dr. Dean Weatherly said he was surprised at the lack of resistance from the Glenmuir team and said he was expecting a much tougher fight.

He said his team came to win every game and said he was pleased with how his players adjusted after the first game against the Clarendon school.

YESTERDAY'S RESULTS
