Vendors getting security hotline

IN A release late last night the Ministry of National Security and Justice expressed "general satisfaction with the pace and form of the relocation of vendors to the specifically designated areas in Downtown Kingston."

The meeting, chaired by Minister Peter Phillips, was also attended by Local Government officials, representatives of the Metropolitan Parks and Markets and members of the Security Forces.

According to the release the meeting recognised as valid concerns expressed by vendors about security arrangements. An audit will therefore be conducted to determine the specific needs including the possible use of surveillance technology, and the contracting of private security companies for each market.

The meeting also issued a call to vendors to comply with the new vending arrangements and to use a new HOTLINE number (922-8794) to report on any security concerns relating to the new market areas.

The security forces will be maintaining a strong presence to ensure that vending is only allowed in the designated areas, the release said.
