'Where has our sense of morality gone'?

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WHENEVER STORIES with captions such as 'Gangs Holding Peace Talks' appear in the newspaper, it reminds us of how numb we have become in Jamaica. Which other civilised country in the world allows criminal gangs to negotiate peace?

We should not be negotiating with criminal elements. Where has our sense of morality gone?

The security forces and indeed the entire government should feel ashamed that we need rival gangs to negotiate in order to restore law and order in this country. This situation cannot be allowed to continue because it is bordering on anarchy.

I am calling on all leaders of society and well-thinking Jamaicans to awake from our stupor and expect a higher standard of governance than what is being currently displayed.
