THE EDITOR, Sir:
THIS LETTER is in response to the mandate given by Commissioner of Police for the review of the operations of the Reneto Adams led Crime Management Unit (CMU).
I would like to advise Mr. Forbes that Jamaica is under siege, in case he has not realised it. We have our own brand of terrorists called Dons. These Dons form local and international networks of kingpins, hitmen drug runners that inter link. Along with uptown terrorists the planned destabilisation of the country is orchestrated. Anyone who opposes the CMU are in opposition to law and order and in support of those who attempt to undermine the authority of the state.
Dons are no good, they are scum of the earth, they are not protectors. These ingrates merely rob, kill and rape and if a citizen does anything to 'dis di don' their house might be burned down or they might even be killed. Most disgustingly if a 'don' sends for your daughter or girl to spend the night you better send her, or move out or face the wrath of 'di don'.
It is obvious to Jamaica that the CMU is an elite group of policemen within the force that strategise and execute their mandate without fear or favour. Whether their intelligence leads them to guns in mongoose town or Beverly Hills, they will respond. These brave men risk their own lives every day so that Jamaicans are able to feel safe in our own homes. What is their reward? Constant criticism.
We hope that you take heart, that law-abiding citizens (majority of Jamaicans) are behind you, God help us if this unit is dismantled and we are left at the mercy of the hoodlums.
The Reneto Adams-led CMU drives fear into the lives of criminals, and it is only fear that is going to stop the gunmen from operating freely as they desire. I say duplicate the CMU unit and dispatch them right across the country.
We Jamaicans pledge our unwavering support for the police and the CMU. We are proud of you. It is time for all Jamaicans to tell what they know, it is informing time now, rise up and be counted, make a difference.
I am, etc.,
