Golden Awards Dinner returns home

WESTERN BUREAU:

Last year the Golden Awards Dinner took a trip to Kingston. For 2001, it is back home to St. Bess.

The Golden Awards are an honour from St. Elizabethans to their fellow 'parishoners', recognising excellence among themselves.

This year, the dinner will be held at Beadle Hall in Santa Cruz on Saturday, December 1, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Six individuals and one organisation will be recognised.

Berris Subaran will receive a Golden Hoe for Agriculture, Dr. Randolph N. Watson will be given a Golden Book for services to Education and Dr. Glenda Simms work in the public service will be rewarded with a Golden Pen. A Golden Nugget goes to Joseph Kinkead for Business, a Golden Gavel to Dr. Trevor Garnett Hamilton for Management and Golden Hands to Rev. Eardley Sedley Gammon for Community Service. A special award, a Golden Star, will be bestowed upon the St. Elizabeth Horticultural Society.

In recognition of the contribution and potential of the young, nominations have been sought for achievements by those under 25.

The evening's guest speaker will be Northern Caribbean University President Dr. Herbert Thompson, who has also written the book 'Rural Gumption'.
