St. James KO kicks off

WESTERN BUREAU:

THE ST. JAMES FA Knock Out will start this afternoon with two matches under a new sponsor.

The teams will play for the Alwil Construction Company trophy in the competition that has been sponsored by Splash/ Natural Mystic, taking over the sponsorship that had come from the Inbond Merchants of Jamaica along with Alan Daswani and Indru Dadlani in the past few years.

This year's package of $150,000 is considerably less than previous years a release from the FA said but added they were "thankful" inlight of the current national economic situation "especially following the incidents of September 11th in the United States."

The release said the FA had received a letter from the Inbond Merchants that stated they had not turned their backs on football but were instead channeling their limited resources into education.

Montego Bay Cricket Club and Montego Bay Boys Club will meet at the UDC field this afternoon in a play-off for a place in the top 16. The winner of this game will play National A-League team Mt Salem United in the first round on Thursday.

In the other game Areba United will play Sting in a first round game in Anchovy.

Both games will start at 3:00 p.m.
