Two more killed in central Kingston

THE BODIES of two unidentified men were found in central Kingston yesterday morning, as Friday's flare-up continued in the downtown communities, despite a curfew imposed between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Reports from the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) are that about 4:45 p.m., the body of a man believed to be about 45 years old, was found with multiple stab wounds on Sutton Street, near the Jamaica Printing Office.

The body is 173 centimetres (5ft 8in) tall, medium build, of dark complexion and was clad in a white shirt, a pair of dark trousers and brown shoes.

The body of the other man believed to be in his late 20s, was found at the intersection of Barry Street and Luke Lane with gunshot wounds to the right ear and arm. The body is of brown complexion, medium build, about 173 centimetres tall and is clad in a brown shirt and coloured under pants.

Yesterday, roadblocks remained mounted in several central Kingston communities as the fighting continued between warring factions in the People's National Party (PNP) strongholds of Tel Aviv and Matthew's Lane. Motorists also continued to ignore the one-way route along North Street as sections of Charles Street remain impassable.

The Gleaner understands that the flare-up began reportedly over a gun the police seized recently from a member of one of the warring factions, sources in the Constabulary said.

The official police reports have stated that the war started over last Monday's killing of Steve Dick, a resident of Charles Street.

Last Friday, eight persons were injured in a drive-by shooting, two of them fatally, at King and Beeston Streets in Kingston. Among them were Ava Angenal, 44, otherwise called 'Sonia', of Arnett Gardens, Kingston 12, and Dave Ferguson, 23, of Princess Street.

Two men were later shot dead Saturday evening when gunmen invaded the Pearnel Charles Arcade on Church Street and opened fire at vendors.
