End the crime

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IN YOUR edition of Wednesday, November 14, 2001, the Commissioner of Police is reported to have told a gathering in Canada that Jamaicans should consider returning home and not be overly concerned with the fear caused by the criminal element.

The Commissioner's focus should not be on getting Jamaicans en masse to return home. His focus should be on getting criminal elements out of Jamaican society. Once that has been accomplished, Jamaicans will flock to their homeland, whether as tourists or as returning residents.

I am, etc.,
