Tivoli look to cool Spanish Town

THE Spanish Town Prison Oval will come under the spotlight at 3:30 this afternoon as the red hot upstarts Spanish Town Comprehensive High School take on the traditional contenders Tivoli Gardens Comprehensive in Manning Cup action.

Both schools are the only unbeaten teams left in Group E having won twice from two starts so far. Spanish Town are now being seen as a surprise package following their 4-0 whipping of STATHS in their opening Manning Cup encounter.

That first win was followed up by a 5-1 hammering of St Jago on Saturday and must be high on confidence as they await Tivoli Gardens Comprehensive. In their first encounter, Tivoli Gardens stopped St Jago 5-2 at the Railway Oval and followed it up with a 2-0 win over Penwood.

Based on the scoring form of both teams, the game could go either way. Tivoli Gardens while fielding a young team are much more seasoned than their opponents in this kind of competition and will backing themselves based on their experience. Spanish Town on the other hand will be counting on home advantage and crowd suport to pull them through and could do just that.

Other games of major interest will be Calabar against Vauxhall at the Barbican field. After holding Kinsgton College to a 2-2 draw at North Street, Calabar went on to stop Trench Town 2-0 and will be looking to continue their winning run against Vauxhall.

Vauxhall started on a winning note edging Pembroke hall 2-1 before falling 1-0 to Kingston College. A win today would go a long way in reviving their hopes of a second round place.
