Herbert Morrison upset

Paul A. Reid, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU:

FORMER CHAMPIONS Herbert Morrison Technical scored an upset 1-0 win over home team William Knibb Memorial in their daCosta Cup Zone A game at Martha Brae in Trelawny yesterday.

The win moved the Montego Bay team to the top of the standings in the zone ahead of defending champions Cornwall College. Herbert Morrison are on four points, one more than Cornwall.

It was the second game for Herbert Morrison and William Knibb while Cornwall and St. James High, the other schools in the zone, have played one game each.

It was a costly win for the Garfield Anderson-coached team however as they finished the game with just nine players. Herbert Morrison had finished with 10 in their first game, a 1-1 draw with St. James High on Wednesday.

In the Zone B top-of-the-table clash, home team Anchovy hit back with a well taken free-kick in the second half to share points with Rusea's.

Rusea's took the lead after 20 minutes when captain Rikardo Collins converted from the penalty spot after Dwayne Jumpp was floored in the area by Rick McIntosh.

McIntosh made up for the blunder when he scored from a spot kick, well outside the area which stayed low and beat goalkeeper Jacomeno Barrett to his right.

Anchovy had the better of chances in the second half and another free kick from McIntosh was curled right footed just high of the crossbar late in the game.

In Zone H, Old Harbour pulled off an upset with a 2-1 win over favourites Glenmuir High at the Soya Oval. It was the first win for the Old Harbour team over the three-time daCosta Cup finalists.
