Sashi 2001 outlines plans for festival

Leighton Williams, Staff Reporter

LOY ENTERTAINMENT got the 'Sashi 2001 - The Experience' promotional train rolling on Thursday with an extravagant press launch at the Strawberry Hill Hotel where plans for this year's festival were outlined.

It was an evening when the quiet hotel in the hills of St. Andrew came alive with gorgeous girls and members of the media as well as entertainment from Voise Mail and Zinc Fence.

The girls, who were the successful members in the 'Sashi 2001 - The Experience model search', strutted their stuff for members of the media and those in attendance towards the end of the show. During the event they mingled and chatted with patrons who were more than happy to meet them.

Zinc Fence provided the opening entertainment; a rendition of Missy Elliot's Get Your Freak On. From then on it was down to the business of outlining plans about this year's show.

First up were the recipients of a donation from Sashi, the Mona Rehabilitation Centre, which saw Judith Whitter accepting on the organisations behalf. The sponsors also told of their involvement with the coverage of Sashi this year.

After meeting sponsors, emcee Richard Beadle introduced the production manager, Walter Elmore, for Sashi who outlined plans being put in place for the staging of the event.

"Access to the artistes for the press to do interviews will be provided this year. The press will have limited access backstage since a press boothe will set up at the event," Elmore explained.

Security and parking plans were outlined: there will be two gates entering the carpark and there will be radio communication to ensure that when an area gets filled traffic will be directed to other areas. No bottles or weapons will be allowed at the venue and drinks will be served in cups.

The Sashi events will begin on Wednesday, August 22 with a Sashi Awards banquet. On Thursday, August 23, there will be a 'Sashi Collection' Fashion Party. The Bikini and Boxer Shorts Party will be on Friday, August 24 with the Dime Girl party on Saturday, August 25. The event will end on Sunday, August 26 with the Sashi Concert.
