Roseau, Dominica: JAMAICA put on an electrifying performance and shocked Dominica 88-28 to record their third straight win, and by the largest margin so far, of the Americas Federation of Netball Associations tournament last night.
The Sunshine Girls' dominance in the first quarter was evident particularly in its attack as Elaine Davis (43 of 47 attempts) and Simone Forbes (14 of 15 attempts) created space close to the goal.
Margaret Byfield was the other shooter with 31 of 40 attempts.
The Dominicans, dubbed the Sisserou Girls by their supporters, took flight after Jamaica had scored three consecutive baskets at the start.
They came out uncharacteristically strong in front of a partisan 2,000-strong crowd at the Stockfarm Sports Complex, but were unable to keep up with Jamaica's flair, skill and speed.
Jamaica relished the first quarter score of 25-9 despite the number of turnovers they created in this period.
The Jamaican defenders played a large role in keeping the ball out of the hands of experienced Dominican shooter Jennifer Nanton, who celebrated her 100th cap for her country through yesterday's game.
At half time, Jamaica stretched the lead to 45-18, and continued the destruction for 66-25 at the end of the third quarter.
Dominica knew it was over from the start, but they fought like birds in captivity, scoring enough to keep spectators from boredom.
In other games last night, Grenada rebounded from their defeat to Jamaica to beat Antigua and Barbuda 59-55. Trinidad and Tobago showed their class over St Vincent and the Grenadines.
The result of the Barbados-St Lucia game was not available at press time.
