Artistes shine at gospel concert

A LOW TURN out for the Shabach Gospel Concert did not deter the performers from 'ministering their hearts out.'

From the beginning it was clear that the Holy Spirit would have its way with the gathering at the Old Harbour Church of God on Saturday night.

Thirteen-year-old Shane Wright's strong and melodious voice outpoured the lyrics of "I Get on My Knees" which set the foundation for the night.

When his performance was over, emcee Nadine Blair and Psalmist Wayne Palmer laid their hands on his head and prayed. The youngster's performance had persons in the audience worshipping God.

Daughter of Ishma, Patrice Moore performed Lord I Lift Your Name On High which also went down well with the audience. Olive Brown's performance of He Lives had the audience rocking. Her one item was enough to fuel the fire that had been started earlier.

Flames of Glory lived up to their name by giving a red hot performance. They performed I Wanna Be More Like Jesus which had the audience all fired up. They then went for a more fast paced song which was delivered with the backing of a soca rhythm. By this time the church was jumping like crazy and waving rags.

The group launched into I Love Him -- another fast paced song. When their performance ended cheers rang throughout the building as the audience had felt the energy of the group's performance.

After a 15 minute intermission the Braeton Dancers set the ball back on course with their dancing.

Ziggy Soul followed. His performance was almost like a praise and worship session. Performing He Saved Me - first with guitar and then acapella - the dreadlocked singer had a heart touching effect.

After a weak performance by Deejay Nicholas it took a good performance from Beloved to revive the worship mode.

Chants for 'more, more, more' from the audience at the end of Robert and Geneive Bailey's performance was the perfect description of how effective they had been.

They had performed I'm Coming Up and several other pieces amidst cheers and shouts from the patrons who were enjoying every minute. When they were through, the audience kept begging for more.

The noise level threatened to lift the roof off the building. However, due to other engagements Robert and Geneive could not grant the crowd their request.

Carlene Davis however was good enough to take up the baton. Delving into some of her hits she had the crowd jumping, dancing and worshipping as she reeled of 'the message from God'.

Her performance of Halle-ujah Christ Is King, originally a duet with Papa San had members of the audience going seemingly crazy. Her back-up singer proved a good replacement for San.

Carlene closed the concert which was overall truly a blessing.
