Shaggy is doing a good turn for his old friend, Danny English.
Understand that Shaggy wants the Big Yard label, which he co-owns with manager Robert Livingstone, to record an album with English for late summer.
English has already been to New York to record five of the tracks at Phillip Smart's Long Island Studios and will be returning to do some more soon.
Wondrous return
Wayne Wonder has been missing for a couple of years from the local recording scene, but it looks like he is about to return with a bang.
One of the songs that gives that impression is his new single on the Win-Glen label, Me And Sandy.
Win-Glen is a new label from Portmore which also does management and promotions and is co-owned by Glen Marley and Glen Bernard.
The label has out a new rhythm, Reptile, created by Shocking Vibes' Andrew Thomas, which has stirred some interests with tracks like Tanto Metro and Devonte's Pretty Like A Rose and Mega Banton's Do That and Done.
A natural high
Singjay Natural Black, has just returned from a successful tour of Switzerland, during which he performed in Geneva, Zurich and St. Gallen.
Backed by the efficient, Zurich-based, Newland band, the singer made quite an impression on Swiss reggae lovers, we understand.
Black also recorded with the Swiss/Senegalese quartet Acao(all colour as one) on their soon-to-be-released single titled Chiguen, which will be distributed by BMG Switzerland. The tour was organised by Jah Children.
Sizzling up
Noticed how much Sizzla has been recording songs about women these days?
The latest is Cute and She Nice for Stampede Conglomerate on the Champion rhythm created by Ward 21's Sukie.
Yogies's new album
Yogie says he is working on material for his next album, while he awaits DreamWorks' release of his reggae remix of Nelly Furtado's Turn Out The Lights track from her Whoa Nelly! (Dreamworks) CD.
The singer was recently in Miami working with label mate Lenn Hammond.
Talking about Miami, singer Ian Sweetness, who moved from Kingston to New York before settling in Miami, says his new single, a cover of O.C. Smith's Little Green Apples is the reggae talk of the town.
Sweetness was in New York recently, to help pay tribute to the late Sonia Moodie of Don One Recording Studion.
On the issue of the tribute to Mrs. Moodie, people are asking whether the fact that Junior Kelly did not perform, although he was backstage from early, was due to the fact that he was picked or because time had run out on the producers.
Kelly was quite upset after someone picked his pocket of US$1000. He felt that so many strangers should not have been allowed backstage and we agree.
By the way, did you hear about Tony Curtis calling Shinehead onstage at the same event, to back LUST on bass. However, when they called on Shinehead to start "bussing" some bass no one could really understand what on earth he was playing, including Curtis.
One wonders why Shinehead had to spoil his evening with the bass adventure, after he had done so well singing and rapping earlier on, accompanied by his champagne drinking friends.
