Labour's victory a foregone conclusion

THE EDITOR, Sir:

"THE WORK goes on" says Tony Blair, leader of the New Labour Party in addressing party workers at Party Headquarters in London.

Prime Minister Tony Blair has created history by giving his party its first ever consecutive two terms since the party's inception 100 years ago.

The Labour Party's second landslide victory in four years was of course a foregone conclusion.

During the four weeks leading up to the elections, the polls were showing the Labour Party with a massive 18-point lead and they maintained their lead throughout the campaign. The pollsters, press, bookmaker's and just about everyone was convinced that it would be a Labour landslide and so it was.

It was indeed an excellent campaign by the New Labour Party and the Liberal Demo-crats. One could argue that the Conservatives had given up before it was over.

I am, etc.,

DERRICK HAMILTON
