Soldiers nabbed with cocaine, gun and ammo

Three Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) soldiers were, on Friday, arrested and charged with possession of and dealing in cocaine, and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

Corporal Richard Cousely, 34, and privates Romain Millah, 22, and Sean Bruce, 24, who are attached to the First Battalion Jamaica Regiment, were charged for breaches of the Dangerous Drugs and Firearms Act.

According to the police, at about 4 p.m. on Friday, a police operation was carried out along the Old Harbour main road in the vicinity of McCooks Pen, St. Catherine.

A number of motor vehicles were stopped and searched, including a red Honda CRV, with three soldiers aboard, two in uniform and another in plain clothes.

Following a search of the vehicle, 2.2 kilograms of a white powdery substance resembling cocaine was found in two parcels. A further search of the vehicle revealed a Hi-Point 9mm pistol with a magazine containing eight rounds of 9mm cartridges.

The men were subsequently arrested and charged and are booked to appear in the Corporate Area Criminal Court on Tuesday.
