THE EDITOR, Sir:
THERE ARE at present so many things going wrong with Jamaica that at times one has to search really hard to find positive things to talk about our country. The very tired line of beautiful beaches and wonderful sunsets seem very insignificant with so many beautiful places in the world.
When we try to see this advertised beauty, too often the very fact that we are Jamaicans makes us outcasts. So many of us have had bad experiences as we dared to enter the land of the tourist just because our strength was in the colour of our skin and not the dollar in our pockets.
This was why as my family and I recently vacationed at Trelawny Beach Hotel the hospitality shown to us by our fellow Jamaicans was the most surprising aspect of our visit. The hotel was staffed by real Jamaicans without any of the prejudices shown by other places.
From the first smile to the way they all went out of their way to make us a part of the Trelawny Beach family made me proud to be Jamaican for the first in a very long time.
This country is comprised of a set of hard working individuals with great strength of character and whose hospitality knows no bounds. Thank you to the staff of Trelawny Beach for a wonderful vacation but more importantly for reminding me that the greatest assets this island possesses is one that is free yet priceless and that is, us Jamaicans.
I am etc.,
