Singers are leading the way

George Nooks

Andrew Clunis, Freelance Reporter

THE SINGERS are clearly making their way back to the forefront of the Jamaican music scene. Sales at record shops on the weekend reflected that the buying public is once again paying attention to vocal music.

Of course, two brothers continue to stand out as they have done for the past few weeks. George Nooks is still impressive with 'God Is Standing By' and 'Lean On Me'.

VC's dream debut continues with 'By His Deeds'. The public has really taken on these two artistes and in the process, the way has been opened up for other singers.

Also doing well in the shops last weekend were Abijah with a new release, 'Revelation', Stevie Face with 'In Love With An Angel' and Luciano scored with 'Mankind Fe Serve Jah'. His sparring partner Mikey General is making a comeback to the market with 'There Is A Light'. Tristan Palmer, has a new song, 'Don't Let Me Be Alone', which is doing well and

Jahmali seems to be eyeing a return to the scene with the new single 'Make Up Your Mind'.

Glen Washington is maintaining his presence with 'Heaven Must Have Sent You'.

On the DJ side of things, Bounty Killer seems to be returning to top form, with two songs 'Mystery Is The Man' and 'Blood Bath', both of which are selling well.

Former top-flight DJ Ninjaman is doing his own production these days through the Ninja Corporation label and has three new songs in the shops, which are gathering interest. They are 'Little White Rose', 'Deportee Is Back' and 'If It Fe Happen'. They appear on his Ninja Corporation label.

The top-selling rhythms are Rice And Peas and Juice. Songs available on these beats are 'Girls Know What Guys Want' by Lady G; 'Warriors Case' by Spragga Benz and Elephant Man and 'Gi Di Girl Dem' by Hawkeye. Frisco Kid has a new song 'Feedback', which is doing well. It appears on the same rhythm as Elephant Man's The Plan. TOK's 'Shake You Bam Bam', Cobra's 'Anything A Anything', Beenie Man's 'I Wish' and Degree's 'My Girl' also did well over the weekend.
