Digicel loses top executive

Digicel's director of operations, Keith Smith has left the company he joined only a year ago, to set up his own consultancy firm.

A statement from the company which recently launched its mobile network in Jamaica, said that Digicel will be Mr. Smith's primary client. The statement said that Mr. Smith, who had been a senior research and development engineer with British Telecommunications and a consultant with London based PA Consulting and Deloitte & Touche Consultancy Group, was "now ready to revive his consultancy business which he had suspended to join Cable & Wireless some four years ago."

Mr. Smith will not only be providing services for Digicel in Jamaica, but will also be involved in the roll-out of the Irish company's systems throughout the English-speaking Caribbean. Mr. Smith said that his new organisation would also be providing consultancy services to call centres as well as to clients who do not compete with Digicel.

Digicel's chief operations officer, Seamus Lynch, said in the release, that his company was pleased that it will still be able to avail itself of Mr. Smith's telecommunications expertise.
