Support the police

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE STATISTICS show that we are regarded as one of the most crime-infested countries in the world. So much so that our residents are migrating in unprecedented numbers.

Yet we are inadvertently supporting criminal behaviour when we condemn the police summarily without a corresponding outcry against the actions of the criminals.

Some recent actions of the police are without a doubt excessive but aren't we demoralising the same police when we continuously lambast them for these excesses while at the same time take little or no concerted action against the scourge of crime, violence and low moral values in the society as well as assisting in identifying appropriate measures of resolving these problems.

Identifying a problem does not necessarily involve the onus of providing a solution but we should be more creative, responsible, and positive in dealing with the problems of the society in these perilous times.

I am, etc.,

ALFONSO F. JACQUES

Padmore P.A.
