Letter of the Day NWC, do better than that!

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THIS IS an open letter to the National Water Commission whose motto is "Water is Life".

I called the 1-888 number to report a fault at my premises on Monday, April 9, 2001. A customer service representative gave me a reference number which is 200 104 090 032, and told me that the report is being logged and repair should be done within 24-48 hours. I told her that it was very imperative that this be done as gallons of water were going to waste and it was causing inconvenience both for me and residents of the walkway as the road was under a lot of water.

This is an ongoing problem and each time the repair crew comes and does repairs in a matter of months the problem resurfaces. When I enquired of the repair crew who was responsible for doing repairs they told me it was NWC hence I did not bother to get my own plumber to effect repairs.

Twenty-four hours passed, I called again to report it and was told by another customer service representative that I have up to 48 hours. I called on the Thursday of the same week and was told that the report has been logged. I informed her that up to this point no one has come to effect repairs and I cannot take the inconvenience any longer. I also told her that Friday is a holiday and if the repair is not done, when will it be done? She told me that they don't work on weekends and the report has been logged.

On Saturday, April 14, I had to get a plumber to carry out repairs as up to writing this letter no one from NWC has been to my premises. I had to spend my own cash to do their work. It is surely a disgrace. I guess that the report is still being logged.

NWC, do better than that, gallons of water going to waste and you don't care. When there is no competition we the consumers suffer badly at the hands of these monopolies.

I am, etc.,
