'MEOSHE' was introduced to the fashion world by a Jamaican-born fashion designer and businessman Lennox Barnes four years ago. And today, this New York-based clothing line has been getting attention from the leaders of the fashion world.
The line was named after Mr. Barnes' daughter and is Japanese for 'good child'.
Mr. Barnes, chief executive officer of Meoshe Sportswear got practical training in the early 1990s when he worked with the Ruff Jeans line of clothes.
His agent, Courtney Vincent, was in Jamaica recently to look into the possibility of marketing the Meoshe line here.
Mr. Vincent told Showbiz: "We are trying to target the Caribbean region and Jamaica is appropriately the first country to market his products.
According to the agent, the Meoshe is popular throughout the United States.
"It is my responsibility to research the market and confer with Lennox to see the viability of the market here. Jamaicans are one of the most fashionable people when it comes to brand name clothing. So, coming here has opened my eyes to the possibilities for Meoshe," Mr. Vincent said. He said Mr. Barnes was unable to visit Jamaica at this time, because he was in Las Vegas preparing for the 'Magic' convention, one of the largest trade shows in the U.S.
"This is where owners of brand names meet, with the likes of Tommy Hilfiger, Versace and Sean John. There buyers can view the lines and make orders and you get to see what your competitors have," Mr. Vincent said.
The Meoshe line has moved from basic T-shirts to more dynamic fashions, some of which are being worn by rappers Wutang Clan, Heavy D, Dr. Dre, Juvenile and Brandy.
Mr. Vincent said he intends to return to the island soon to meet with specific stores which have shown interest in carrying the line.
