Paul and Paulette's spiritual bond

Laura 'Paulette' Williams and Carl 'Paul' Williams - Contributed

By Eugene Pitter, Staff Reporter

TWINS Laura a.k.a. "Paulette" and Carl a.k.a "Paul" Williams, are so closely knitted not even their lovers can separate this bond which they have developed since childhood days.

The twins, who live in Spanish Town, have also been keeping each other's secrets, revealing only the ones they feel are no threat to their well-being.

Call it ridiculous or whatever you might say. This will not change the beliefs of Paulette and Paul.

"Until death will we keep each other's secret ... I wouldn't reveal Paul's secret for anything in this world. I love him. He is my twin brother," the 27-year-old said.

Paul has a mutual belief.

"She is more than a sister to me and I can't help expressing myself the way ah do. We have shared only a few of our secrets," he said.

One such secret is the twins "sculling" school on several occasions without the knowledge of their parents. It only took a hand-written note with her mother's signature courtesy of Paulette to give the troublesome twins a whole day to skip school.

She had studied and practised her mother's signature for weeks before approaching the principal.

Paulette confessed, "We would write letters to the school principal Mr. Reid, that we could not attend school on such dates. Poor Mr. Reid would look at the letters believing my mother had signed them. It was me ,Paulette."

Their parents said they didn't have a clue this was happening to them. Even when they wrote that a relative had died and they had to be away for a week. "That one was sticky for when the principal and teacher read the letter and decided to collect money to buy the wreaths for the funeral. Paul quickly said the funeral would not be held in Jamaica," Paulette added.

Other secrets were disclosed such as hiding in a nearby old truck right under their parents' nose, when they were not at school.

"It was no laughing matter. They had a piece of mirror set in a position to show when we were in close proximity to them and we didn't realise what was happening. We thought they were at school learning," the twin's mother said.

Then, there were times when the twins would push their parents' car from the drive-way when they were in bed, and would drive the car in the scheme.

"It wasn't easy, for we had to make sure the wheels went over the original tracks that the car made in the drive-way," Paulette said.

"Sometimes I really have to laugh when I think about these pranks my own children played on me," Shirley, the twin's mother said.

The twins parents said they were very close from birth, willing to share whatever they had, including food. But, Paul was always removing the meat from her dish. "Anytime I see the meat missing from my plate I know it was Paul, But it didn't matter. I love him. He is always there for me in good times and bad times," Paulette said.

Paulette considers herself multi-talented. She has represented her parish in drama festival and won best personality in the 1987 Festival Queen contest. She has two children.

Paul is in construction, a field which his father and two brothers have chosen for their livelihood.
