Outraged residents block road on MP, Councillor

Peart

PORUS, Manchester

FURIOUS RESIDENTS of Huntley, northwest Manchester, blocked in Dean Peart, their Member of Parliament, and Councillor Jasmine Dwyer of the John's Hall Division, Wednesday night shortly after a "Face-to-Face" meeting at the Huntley All-Age School with the two politicians, turned sour.

According to Councillor Dwyer, a resident of the constituency was expressing disgust over the poor state of the Huntley main road in particular, that sections were dug up in December, pipes laid, and no action has been taken since.

About 10 o'clock the resident was making his complaint when an apparently irritated Mr. Peart told him to "Shut up!"

This upset the other citizens at the meeting and amid howls of protest the meeting ended prematurely.

Citizens then used large trees, old, abandoned cars and other debris to block the road at several sections in the community.

Councillor Dwyer told The Gleaner that during the protest, two of her car tyres were slashed. She and Mr. Peart were able to leave the community only after the police came to their rescue.

According to Councillor Dwyer the contractor who had been fixing the road had not returned to complete the project which was started in December.

She said that his absence had contributed to the deterioration of the road surface.

Mr. Peart could not be reached for comment.
