Make a difference for the 21st century

THE EDITOR, Madam:

WITH reference to a headline in The Sunday Gleaner dated 31st of December, 2000, which read: Communion Crisis. This story reflects that the church needs to be awakened. This action has left many unanswered questions. Does the church need a revival for the 21st century? Is Jesus of Nazareth still Lord over the church today?

"...Neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee to keep thee in all thy ways. Thou shall tread upon the lion and adder" - Psalms 91 vs 10-13, "And these signs shall follow them that believe - they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover," St. Luke 16 vs 17 and 18, KJV (King James Version).

The church cannot take over the world, when they are still afraid. "Be still and know that I am God" Psalms 46 vs 10; "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away," Luke 21 vs 33; "and he said unto them, where is your faith?" Luke 8 vs. 25. KJV. I shall challenge the church to acknowledge and prove otherwise.

Going further back into the previous year with reference to an article dated Sunday, 10th of December, 2000, which read: "The end of politics. The church has not shown the world enough to convince them, that their leaders are ready to take over. This is not an insult to the church, but a challenge waiting for reaction."

I share the author's view, but would like to remind him that we cannot end that which we have not started. What has been happening in Jamaica over the years is a group of persons trying to launch a political system. This project is not yet launched, and it is the responsibility of every Jamaican to assist in the launch of this long overdue project. Please be reminded that politics is also defined as being prudent.

Gas will not flow freely through a dirty carburettor, this can affect starting, and the engine may not turn over. If the citizens are corrupt, then the leaders of the system will be corrupted. If the leaders of the system become clean and the citizens are still corrupt, then the leaders will become corrupt again. If the citizens are clean and the leaders are dirty, then, there lies the threat of insubordination and the leaders will be forced to run away or face revolution.

I urge my fellow Jamaicans to make a difference for the 21st century. Start looking into the mirror and accept your image, don't hide it, work and improve it. Unite and love your fellowmen for a better society and renounce all corruption from among yourselves.

I am, etc.,
