SWS

  • Year end bashment

The sound system, SWS, has returned to Jamaica after an extensive tour of the US in time for their eagerly anticipated end-of-year bashments.

"It was an incredible tour. On the last leg, we performed at a dance with Baby Cham as the featured act and we locked the place," said selector 'Socco'.

The sound will appear at 'Barely Legal', the third anniversary of the popular SWS sound system at the Doctor Bird at the Clock Tower plaza, Half-Way Tree on Sunday, December 24.

The show will feature Alaska, New Image and Karl Hitman Marshall. There will be performances by special guest artistes, Hawkeye and Alozade.

  • Sizzla, Bounty songs

A Bounty Killer-Sizzla cottage industry seems to have sprung up in recent times sparked by the friction between the two artistes.

Producer True Blue has mixed Sizzla's Advance and Bounty Killer's Ghetto Crown King on the Big Up rhythm to rave reviews from industry insiders.

"The song appears on the Cartel Family label, distributed by Michigan Distribution. I got the idea from the controversy at Champions In Action and I saw the 'Saddle To The East' posters, so the idea clicked. I had these two songs on one rhythm so I did the remix," True Blue said.

Further, a selector called Donny from Exodus has produced a mix with four Sizzla and Bounty Killer songs, which is all the rage in the dancehalls.

  • Rhythms receiving good airplay

The hot new Lightning and Thunder rhythms have been getting some good spins on local radio and mix tapes since its debut. Both are produced by Jeremy Harding on the 2 Hard Label.

Artistes featured on the Lightning rhythm are Sean Paul, General Degree, Elephant Man, Mr. Vegas, Hawkeye, Delly, Looga Man, Buccaneer, Ward 21, Delly Ranks and others. The Thunder rhythm features Frisco Kid, Da Ville, TOK, Harry Toddler, Sean Paul, Buccaneer and others.

The Lightning rhythm has been released and distributed internationally by Greensleeves records. The Thunder rhythm will be released by VP records in January.

  • Coco Tea's latest

When Al Gore delivered his concession speech on Wednesday, December 13, it marked the end of a long, strange journey for the American political system as the closest presidential race in centuries stretched the American constitution to the max. VP Records has picked up Coco Tea's latest single, Who's Going to Step into White House, a sly commentary of the US political system, which raised a lot of eyebrows a few weeks ago.

"The single is expected to do well. It got a lot of airplay in Jamaica, and VP Records is enthusiastic about the feedback so far," Coco Tea said.

  • Beatles' album - record sale

The Beatles juggernaut continues to roll and the world seems unable to stop it. Published reports have 1, the new Beatles album that collects all of the group's 27 U.K. and U.S. No. 1 hits on one album, breaking the record for most sales in the first week of release with the all-time sales record on the horizon.

Apple, the Beatles' label, said more than 3.6 million copies of 1 were sold worldwide in its first week, easily besting the previous record-holders 'N Sync and the 2.4 million copies of No Strings Attached they sold in one week. The album has held the pole position for the past three weeks, having sold 826,000 copies last week.

    Shottis and Ayatola

  • Shottis, Ayatola's rhythms doing well

The new deejay duo, Shottis and Ayatola's new single Nah Lie on the Big Up rhythm is receiving some good airplay on local radio and the night club circuit.

"The tune is catchy and the clubs love it," said publicist Gregory McFarlane.

The duo has been very busy in the studio recording Nah Lie on dubplates for many sound systems and radio disc jocks. Shottis and Ayatola's most recent performances include Jerry D Live at Linstead Food Fair Talent Search, and Cable View Concert at Asylum nightclub where they represented themselves well.
