NOT A single shot was fired between Friday and yesterday in McIntyre Lands, otherwise known as Dunkirk in east Kingston.
The cease-fire is the result of the police meeting with warring factions in the community over the weekend, said Detective Inspector McArthur S. Sutherland of the Kingston Eastern Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
For the last two weeks, factions in the community had been trading bullets in a turf war which stemmed from men in the '100 posse' claiming to be leaders over men from Bryden and Bray Streets. The men from the latter streets took offence to the claim and defended their turf against the 'dictators' -- the 100 posse.
The dispute intensified last Wednesday night when a woman was shot dead and a man shot in his thigh.
"It (meeting) has paid off because we haven't had any reports of shooting," said Detective Inspector Sutherland.
He added that the police would be "getting representatives from both sides to have a final meeting to iron out certain differences."
The final truce meeting is expected to be held this week at a venue to be agreed on by all parties.
He said the operations officer for the police Kingston Eastern Division, Deputy Superintendent Steve McGregor and crime officer Deputy Superintendent Anthony Laing, together with himself and other policemen and policewomen met with men from McIntyre Housing Complex at about 6:00 p.m. on Friday at McIntyre Villa Community Centre. This was followed by a meeting on Saturday with residents of Bryden and Bray Streets at Elletson Primary School.
