A welcomed invasion

Senator Aloun N'Dombet Assamba, shows off her moves with publisher Earl DeRizzo at the COK media appreciation mingle held at the Morgan's Harbour Hotel, Port Royal. - Winston Sill

It was like a welcomed invasion when Vera Borvitt, a guest of the Morgan's Harbour Hotel, Port Royal, 'crashed' the recent City of Kingston Co-operative Credit Union's 'Media Appreciation Mingle' on the lawns of the hotel.

Mrs. Borvitt was watching and enjoying the music and the dance from the balcony of her room, when she decided to get dressed and join the party. She arrived while reggae music was blasting and those who were on the dance floor cleared the area to watch her energetic moves to Mr. Vegas' Heads High.

In fact, some of COK's staff and media personnel were so taken by her dancing that they joined her. Then Mrs. Borvitt took hold of the microphone and proceeded to sing in Russian to the Jamaican "womens" and "mens" who she described as wonderful people.

Amidst the cheers, the laughter and the visitor got down and shook her shoulders to the delight of the onlookers.

She proceeded to give dance lessons to Senator Aloun N'Dombet Assamba, general manager of COK. This was undoubtedly the highpoint of the festivities. On leaving she kissed as many guests as she could and thanked Senator Assamba for accommodating her.

Mrs. Borvitt said she was in Jamaica with her German husband on a two-day business visit. Guests also enjoyed jerked chicken, jerked fish, jerked pork, yam salad, tossed salad, plus dokunnu, which was served wrapped in the banana leaves and bread pudding. Wines and liqueurs were plentiful.

Guests mingled as they enjoyed the cool sea breeze and jammed to soca music. Among them were Patrick Bailey, David Ebanks, Earl DeRizzo, Lorna McCraig and Melissa Edwards.
