PROVISIONAL TAXPAYER Registration Numbers (TRNs) will no longer be issued or accepted to conduct business with any tax office after November 30, 2000. This move comes as a result of the Tax Administration's efforts to improve its computerised facilities and the quality of its database, to offer more timely and accurate information.
Persons who currently have a provisional number or a number beginning with a 'P' should go to the most convenient tax office and provide all outstanding documents, so they can get a confirmed TRN and a card. New applicants are also urged to satisfy all the requirements when applying for a TRN. It should be noted however that a TRN card may not be issued immediately as the information provided will have to be verified.
Since the inception of the TRN programme in 1996 over one million confirmed TRNs have been issued, however there are taxpayers who currently have a provisional TRN.
Taxpayers are urged to come in early and avoid unnecessary inconvenience, as the Jamaica Revenue Service (JRS) streamlines its operations to offer a better service.
