Disrespectful response to Ottey's selection

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I AM really surprised at the behaviour of the Jamaican track team in Australia. After all the years of sacrifices that Merlene Ottey has given to Jamaica's Track and Field this is no way to treat her.

The athletes are just as guilty as the organisations that suspended her for the time she was away from the sport. I think that was a bold stance taken by the JAAA personnel. If our own people cannot be loyal to one another, then who will be.

Jamaica get behind this great Jamaican and show appreciation for her hard work ethics and dedicated efforts over the years to showcase her competitiveness. She deserves to leave the international track and field stage with her pride and dignity.

Let us give her the same respect, love and loyalty that she has displayed for Jamaica throughout her illustrious career. Run Merlene run, all Jamaicans worldwide support, love and respect you.

I am etc.,
