Call for a public outcry

THE EDITOR, Madam:

KINDLY ALLOW me space in your publication to commend Sandals Chairman Gordon "Butch" Stewart for joining the cries of many ordinary Jamaican families who have suffered over the years at the hands of criminal elements in our society.

This outcry by Butch Stewart is well overdue! I hope Mr. Stewart, a great Jamaican entrepreneur, will not have to migrate as a result of fear for his life, but I wonder had the Air Jamaica ticket office in Montego Bay not been broken into would he have come out so open and straightfoward with his criticism of the way the Patterson Administration has handled crime?

It is time for all our leaders - Business, Religious and Political, to come out against the way this government has been handling issues of national interest. Let us hear from the JMA, the JCC, the Council of Churches, the PSOJ, the Opposition Labour Party, the NDM, the Bar Association and all other bodies.

I am etc.,

MARK J. RODNEY,

General Secretary Young Jamaica
