Lecturer to join Fulbright programme


Michelle McAnuff-Gumbs

MICHELLE MCANUFF-GUMBS, a lecturer in English at Bethlehem Moravian College in Malvern, St. Elizabeth, has been selected to pursue a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction at Ohio University, beginning this month.

Her studies are being sponsored by the US Embassy under the 2000-2002 Fulbright/LASPAU (Latin American Scholarship Pro-gramme of American Univer-sities) Faculty Development Programme.

A First Class Honours graduate in English from the University of the West Indies (UWI), Ms. McAnuff-Gumbs took up her current lecturing post at Bethlehem Moravian College in 1996. She obtained a Diploma in Education (English and History) from Sam Sharpe Teachers' College in Montego Bay in 1992, and subsequently taught English Language and Literature at the Cedric Titus Secondary School for one year. An ICWI Scholarship awardee, Ms. McAnuff-Gumbs received a number of awards during her academic career, including the Third Year English Prize at UWI, and prizes for Excellence in Research and Excellence in English at Sam Sharpe Teachers' College.

The principal objective of the Fulbright/LASPAU programme is to provide an opportunity for advanced academic work to those individuals who will contribute in important ways to their institutions and their countries, on their return.
