TV danger

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I AM writing about the impact of television shows and songs on the society, mainly children. Proverbs 22v.6 commands with the following promise: Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

There is no doubt that what we see and listen to have an impact on our thoughts and our behaviour either in a positive or in a negative way. With this knowledge, it amazes me to understand why there are so many T.V. shows and songs that carry a negative message. T.V. shows that promote unfaithfulness in a marriage relationship, dishonesty, stealing, selfishness and violence are a few examples of a negative message that is aired daily. A lot of the songs that are being aired promote the recognition of Rastas and their idolatry, ie. the worship of Haile Selassie I as "God" (though he was only a man), indecency, immorality, and disrespect for law and order. It is no wonder then why the society is what it is today! The door has been opened wide for the devil to do his dirty works!

It is not too late to make a change in the lives of our children. One way of doing this is to have good, moral and decent T.V. shows, and songs that promote godliness. Then we will without a doubt see a change in the society for the better. Let us make a positive impact on our children, children live what they learn. May God help us to do the right thing!

All praise and glory be unto you Almighty God!

I am, etc.,
