HINDUISM is the religion of the Hindus whose language is Hindi - the official language of the Republic of India. Hindi is a north-Indian language used by near 40 per cent of Indians.
Hinduism, the religion has three chief Gods, called Trimurti. They are:
(a) Brahma, the Supreme Spirit (or Atman) who works creatively as one of the three, and brought into being the cosmos which is both real and an illusion (maya) since its reality is not lasting. The cosmos is personified as goddess MAYA.
(b) Vishnu, the preserver. Vishnu is said to have taken various human forms such as KRISHNA.
(c) Rama - as jagganath (the Lord of the world); he has a famous temple at Puri. There are numerous lesser Gods such as Hanuman, Ganesa, and demons, ghosts and spirits also revered.
The practice of Hinduism is full of rites and ceremonies performed under the supervision of Brahman priests and teachers.
Temple worship is said to be universally performed. There are always many festivals. Hinduism is also practised in the Caribbean especially in Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago.
The Apocrypha (apokrifa with stress on pok). Additional books exist between the end of the Old Testament and the beginning of the New Testament. These additional books are known as the apocrypha. Roman Catholics give these additional books the same status as the rest of the Bible. Those who do not accept the apocrypha have their Old Testament with 39 books but Catholics have seven more books. The new Testament has 27 books universally beginning with Matthew and ending with Revelation.
