St James aiming to be more clinical around goal area

Western Bureau:
Champions St James High, with maximum six points from two games, will be aiming to widen their lead atop Zone A of the 2009 ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup when the competition resumes today at 3:30 p.m. with action in all 12 zones for a total of 33 games.
Despite 4-0 and 2-0 wins against Spot Valley and Muschett in their two games, St James High's coach, Pastor Hugh Solomon, is still unhappy with his team's offence and is hoping that they will finally play up to expectations when they play away to two-time champions Herbert Morrison Technical, which suffered a surprise 1-0 loss to Spot Valley on Thursday.
"We are missing far too many easy chances," said Pastor Solomon, whose much-feared front line includes last year's golden boot winner, Allan Ottey. "We have been putting in a lot of work in training to rectify this problem, so we will see how it goes in this game."
perennial contenders
In Zone B, which has been hit by the withdrawal of both Merlene Ottey High and perennial contenders Knockalva High, fans should be in for a treat at the Colin Miller Complex in Lucea when the eight-time champions open their campaign against 2003 winners Frome Technical.
Last year Rusea's, which are jointly coached by Emerson 'Diggy' Henry and Anthony 'Follies' Williams, won one game 1-0 while the Boysie Nicholson-coached Frome dominated the other game but had to settle for a 1-1 draw.
With a long history of tough games against each other, today's contest should be interesting.
In Zone E, the Hopeton Gilchrist-coached Munro College, who are fancied to do well this year, will face their first real test of the season this afternoon when they come up against a Lacovia team which surprised all and sundry last year when they emerged zone winners over perennial front-runners St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) and Munro.
In their first round game, Lacovia handed Newell High a 4-2 defeat, while Munro blanked Black River 2-0. With the other group game between STETHS and Balaclava ending 0-0, a win for either Munro or Lacovia would give them a significant boost in their bid for zonal honours.
For Zone I, which features two former champions in Glenmuir and Garvey Maceo and quality contenders in Old Harbour and Kemps Hill, an interesting afternoon should be in the offering. Garvey Maceo, first round 1-0 winners against Central, will face off with Kemps Hill while Glenmuir, who were rampant while thrashing Tacius Golding 6-0, will battle Old Harbour.
In Zone L (b), St Thomas Technical, which have been the best of the eastern Jamaica teams in recent years, will be aiming to make it three wins from three starts when they come up against Morant Bay High.
Having already registered easy 5-0 and 2-0 wins against Yallahs and Seaforth, the St Thomas team should be full of confidence.
