HOUSE SPEAKER Delroy Chuck has once again appealed to Members of the House of Representatives to conduct themselves with the decorum befitting Parliament's legislative chamber.
"I have just receive a correspondence from the prime minister who, like myself, receives regular correspondences about the behaviour of members in Parliament," Chuck said at the start of Tuesday's sitting of the House.
The House Speaker reminded members that parliamentary sittings were broadcast live, not just in Jamaica, but around the world.
Asking for respect
"I am not asking for you to be consistently quiet, but please be respectful," Chuck said.
He added: "The cut and thrust of Parliament is evident and we expect that to happen, but when a member is on his or her feet we expect other members to be respectful of that persons presence standing.
"I can do no more than to beg members, please try to behave in a matter fitting of parliamentary behaviour," Chuck said.
Meanwhile, indiscipline at Parliament has not been confined to the House of Representatives.
In the Senate last week, government Senator Desmond McKenzie called Leader of Opposition Business A.J. Nicholson a sorry excuse for a human being.
He also made a spitting sound at Opposition members following an insult from K.D. Knight who said his words were like pearls and he had cast them on the Government's side.
