Pastor calls for church unity

Pastor Mavoureen Watson of the Apostolic Worship Centre is encouraging Christians from all denominations to put aside their differences and unite in the fight against crime and economic volatility.

Watson was speaking on Sunday during the launch of 'Cruise and Worship: Many Churches, One Voice' at the Chemistry Lecture Theatre on the campus of the University of the West Indies, Mona.

The first annual 'Cruise and Worship' is to be held next month aboard the Caribbean Queen cruise ship on June 12 from 7-11 p.m.

The special praise-and-worship session is being held in an effort to encourage ecumenism among churches in Jamaica.

"There are all kinds of isms and schisms but we have come of age and now realise that our coming together is not about a denomination but that we do what we do because we were born out of the heart of God," Watson said on Sunday.

Potential for positive change

Watson said he was confident that the Church could create significant and positive change in Jamaica if Christians pooled their resources.

Gillian Robinson, programme manager, said the event, dubbed 'An Evening of Praise and Thanksgiving', is expected to facilitate ministry from a number of churches, including God's Way Assembly, Harvest of Hope, Church of God of Prophecy, Unity Christian Centre and Full Life Deliverance Ministries. The main artistes, husband-and-wife team, Mark and Mervaylle Foga, will also minister in song.

Tickets are being sold at a cost of $2,000 and are available at participating churches.
