The National Commercial Bank has launched a web initiative to give advice to customers grappling with the effects of the global financial meltdown, said Audrey Tugwell-Henry, senior general manager for the bank's retail marketing Division.

"We launched a campaign that deals with money matters. We have gone to the customers to talk about dealing with their financial situations during challenging times, so we were proactive," Tugwell-Henry told The Gleaner in an interview.

"There is no dramatic feedback in terms of people saying they are dying or anything, but we do know that our customers are experiencing some amount of difficulties."

Among the major concerns, said Tugwell-Henry, were debt-management strategies from reduced income, as well as budgeting and saving.

Additionally, she said the institution has created an environment where customers can log on to the website and access budgeting templates and other money-management issues.

"The aim is to support our customers as a bank during difficult times," she said.

She also said although it was early to measure the success rate of the venture, the response was positive.
