Mid-season champions Seba United continue to put daylight between themselves and the other contenders in the 2008-09 Captain's Bakery Western Super League, when they defeated Bamboo FC 3-0 to move five points clear atop the 12-team standings.

Playing before a fair-size crowd at Jarrett Park, the Seba United team, which started their second-round campaign last weekend with a 5-0 win against Mount Salem, showed no mercy to the Bamboo FC team as Kemar James, with a double strike and Wilfred Smith, with his fourth goal in two games, were bang on target.

In other high-profile games Sunday, third-place Granville, which suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat to Violet Kickers in their previous game, against second-place Frome FC, spanked them 3-0 in the big clash at the Sam Sharpe Teachers' College grounds.

Consistent

The Tracey Reid-coached Granville team, which drew 0-0 with Frome FC in their first-round clash, got their goals through the wily Dexter 'Peppa' Smith, who had a double strike, and Oniel Sterling.

"We just need to be consistent and we should do just fine," said Reid, whose team now has a record of seven wins, two draws and two defeats after 13 games. "We are still quite confident that we will top this competition."

Fourth-place Wadadah, who are having a strange season after being kicked out of the competition and later reinstated, continue to appear to be a serious contender for the title, scoring a good 3-1 win against Salt Spring. With the loss, Salt Spring have now slipped to 11th place and seem in danger of being relegated.

In other games, 10th-place Negril FC climbed out of the relegation zone with a surprise 2-0 win against the inconsistent Violet Kickers, while the game between bottom-place Mount Salem and Clark's Town ended prematurely because of crowd trouble, with Mount Salem leading 2-0.

With the competition's second round now on in earnest, the current point standings read as follows: Seba United 32; Frome FC 27; Granville 25; Wadadah 22; Bamboo FC 17; Violet Kickers 15; Clark's Town 15; Montpelier 13; Grange Hill 13; Negril 13; Salt Spring 11 and Mount Salem 7.
