SANTA CRUZ, ST ELIZABETH:
Work could begin on the Santa Cruz street people care centre very soon.
Late last year, Jacqueline Mullings, branch manager of the Jamaica Money Market Brokers (JMMB) in Santa Cruz, made a $25,000 presentation to Joyce Francis, chairperson of the St Elizabeth Care Committee (STCC), signifying the company's initial contribution to the project.
The financial institution's contribution hasn't stopped there, as $25,000 will be disbursed to the committee every quarter for the next three quarters, bringing the total contribution to $100,000.
JMMB donation
Speaking in an interview with The Gleaner on Tuesday, Francis said things were on track for the Santa Cruz facility to begin operating early this year. Francis said the JMMB donation would go a far way in assisting the group to establish the centre, which, when completed, would be operated under the umbrella body of the STCC.
The project is the brain child of former mayor of Black River, Daphne Holmes.
Every Tuesday, the STTC provides hot meals, a shower and change of clothing, for the homeless, while on the first and fourth Tuesdays of each month, a doctor comes in to treat the mentally ill/challenged persons in the parish.
If anyone would like to make a contribution to this worthy cause please contact Joyce Francis at 965-2288 or Tracey Reynolds at the St Elizabeth parish council.
