SUBSTITUTE KEIRON Brock struck in extra time as Cavalier beat Santos 1-0 in their Claro/Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Super League match at Constant Spring yesterday.
Brock's goal handed Cavalier their first victory of the season, while Santos have now lost their first two games.
In a match which was dominated by conservative ball possession, neither team threatened as, for the most part, the attacks were either broken down or shots went wide.
Real chance
The game's first real chance went to Cavalier but Sheldon Foster's left-footer from inside the area was parried behind by Denzil Isaacs for a corner in the 59th minute.
Ten minutes later, Ricardo Blake, who caught the Santos defenders napping, fired high from close range. In time-added on in the opening stanza, Santos' Kybaki Edwards got off a header on target but Everdeen Scarlett was equal to the task in the Cavalier's goal.
The deadlock was finally broken when Brock, who came on midway through the second half, arrived at the back post to rifle home an Oneil Morrison cross.
The victory was a bittersweet one for Cavalier whose driver, Clifton Grant, succumbed to stab wounds he received on Friday night in Red Hills.
Lamar Morgan, coach of Cavalier, said his players maintained their composure after hearing of the passing of Grant.
"The mental aspect played on them today but it was a good game overall," he said.
Meanwhile, Santos' coach, Carlton 'Spanner' Dennis, put the blame squarely at the feet of his players.
"We were all over them in the second half and we just got indisciplined and gave up a goal," said a disappointed Dennis.
Other games
In other games, August Town, demoted from the Premier League, recorded their second 6-0 thrashing of an opponent in the new season, this time against Real Mona.
Donovan Hibbert (13th, 63rd) and Oneil Fairweather (79th, 89th) each scored twice for the winners.
Constant Spring also secured their second win, a 3-1 triumph over Liguanea, while Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) edged Duhaney Park 2-1.
Bull Bay beat Mountain View 1-0, thanks to Horace Thompson's 86th-minute strike, while the Police National and Maverley/Hughenden match ended 1-1.won 1-0.
