AFTER A a hectic financial year spent navigating turbulent times, what will our local business leaders be doing to relax this season and what are they looking forward to the most?
I am looking forward to spending Christmas, the first, with my son Jack. I will be in Jamaica and will spend Christmas Day with my family in the country and Boxing Day with friends.
What I am looking for is peace and harmony in Jamaica - a peaceful season. I hope more people will reflect on Jesus' life and the gift of God sending His son as His personal example. He said "love thy neighbour" and so I hope we live that out in our own personal way this Christmas and for 2009 and the rest of our lives.
I will be working this Christmas. We at GraceKennedy have a lot of demands to meet for the holidays, especially the ham. In addition, this is the time of year when remittances increase. I will be spending time ensuring that all goes well and that Jamaicans get quality service this season.
I will also be going out with my colleagues to our community development foundation outreach programmes. Many are inner-city communities. We meet, sing carols, and give older people gift baskets. This year, we will be going to Cassava Piece, Payne Avenue and areas around central Kingston where our head office is located.
Normally, I am not here. For the last 12 years, I have been in Canada because of a very large family in Toronto. But, this year, because my daughter is doing CXC and has mock exams in January, she will be needing my help. She wants to stay here and I will stay because of that. So, most of my time will be taken up with family obligations.
I will be spending Christmas with my grandchildren in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. With my Island Grill family, I will be caring for the abandoned elderly at St Monica's, bringing them good cheer, singing carols, feeding them and combing their hair. Each one of the stores chooses a project like that. I will go to Fort Lauderdale on Christmas Eve and return on Boxing Day.
I hope that the economy gets better and that more jobs will open up so that Jamaica gets more prosperous. Our hearts go out especially to the children of Jamaica, given that there is so much being perpetrated against them. We hope things change to bring them cheer and joy.
I may be on a business trip over the holiday, but Christmas is a great time to be in Jamaica.
I am really looking forward to taking off time for Christmas for the first time since coming back. My plan is just to relax. We will probably go to the north coast and visit a few other places, but we will not be leaving Jamaica. Otherwise, I will just be at home relaxing with my wife.
I am looking forward to spending time with family and friends and in particular, my son, Kris-Anthony, who lives in Canada, but who is coming home for Christmas.
