The Met Service yesterday said Jamaica would today continue to experience heavy rainfall, especially in northern parishes, as a result of a stationary front affecting the country.

A flash-flood warning, which is in effect until 5 a.m. today, has been issued for low-lying and flood-prone areas. Residents can also expect windy conditions with temperatures falling two degrees below normal.

Incidents of flooding

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management yesterday also reported several incidents of flooding, impassable roads and landslides in the parishes of St James and Trelawny, leaving several people stranded and forcing some schools to suspend classes for the day.

Additionally, sections of a building in Trench Town, south St Andrew, collapsed yesterday following heavy rainfall. There were no reports of injuries.
