THE AMERICAN three-year-old colt ENGLISH STORM, running at the gigantic odds of 35-1 with Shane Ellis aboard, survived a late run from highly-fancied REGAL SELECTION to win the Royal Dad Trophy circular nine feature by a head at Caymanas Park yesterday. The betting made recent winner EVANDER a 2-1 favourite ahead of REGAL SELECTION at 5-2, with ENGLISH STORM, one of three imported horses in the nine-strong field, weak in the market.
Despite this, ENGLISH STORM raced on a snug hold in third as the 40-1 outsider UNBREAKABLE HEART with champion jockey Omar Walker aboard led from the well-backed hat-trick seeker HOMBRE (7-2), with EVANDER racing just off early pace in fourth and REGAL SELECTION outpaced.
Travelling sweetly on the bridle leaving the half mile, ENGLISH STORM assumed the lead from UNBREAKABLE .
