Business House Five-A-Side Football Association general secretary Dawn Smith (second left) presents the Tank-Weld/Ciclon Business House Football Knockout title to Scotiabank's captain, Damion Gordon, after their penalty kick win over Tank-Weld on Thursday at the NWC playing field, Mona.

  • Scotia Bank are KO champs

Scotia Bank Group crowned themselves the 2008 Tank-Weld/Ciclon Business House five-a-side football KO champions on Thursday afternoon when they defeated the defending champions, Tank-Weld Metals, 2-0 on penalty kicks in the final at the NWC playing field, Mona.

In a hard-fought contest, both teams were locked at 2-2 at the end of regulation time and 3-3 after extra time. It required penalty kicks to decide the outcome and Scotia Bank, with goals from Nicholas McCreath and Richard West, finally pulled it off as Scotia's keeper, Damion Crooks, saved all the penalties taken by Tank-Weld.

Significantly, Scotia Bank extended their unbeaten run this season in both the KO and the league to 23 wins. They are on course for the double, having reached this weekend's Division Two league final.

Despite playing against one of the top Division One teams, Scotia Bank led 2-1 at half-time with goals from Donovan Hibbert, who fired past former national goal keeper Richard McCallum in the early stages, and West made it 2-0 in the 18th minute. It was left to penalty kicks to break the deadlock. Scotia Bank thus gained the $30,000 winners' share while Tank-Weld secured $15,000.

  • Bank football semis on today

The Jamaica Automobile Association/Western Sports sponsored Norman Goodison Inter-Bank football league enters its semi-final stage this afternoon at the NWC playing field, Mona.

Defending champions National Commercial Bank (NCB) face Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) at 1:00 p.m. with Scotiabank Group tackling RBTT at 3:00 p.m.

The opening match is expected to be a close affair as the teams drew 3-3 in the preliminary round. NCB will rely on Delon Faulknor, Manish Alexander, George Clarke, Calneth Gray, Jermaine Gardener and Hugh Smith.

JNBS will be relying on Kimani Young, Richard Crawford, Rohan Rainford, Marlon Smith and goal keeper Richard Forrest.

In the feature match, Scotiabank will start favourites against RBTT, who they defeated 8-1 in the opening game of the season.

Scotiabank will be looking to the league's leading goalscorer, Richard West (eight goals), Nicholas McCreath, Donovan Hibbert, Ludwick Leith, Stephan Bartley and the veteran Errol Mitchell, while RBTT will be banking on Jason Fearon, Rohan Findley, Paul and Marc Heslop, Gary Brown and Corey Mussington for an upset victory.

The final will be played next Sunday at the same venue.

Scotiabank topped the preliminary round on 11 points, two more than NCB and JNBS. RBTT finished fourth on seven points, BOJ fifth on four points and newcomers Guardian Life finished without a point.

  • Broilers claim third in Super League netball

Jamaica Broilers defeated JCF 'A' 43-35 to win the third-place play-off in the Business House Netball Association Locker Room-sponsored Super League at the Leila Robinson Courts last Tuesday.

On the same afternoon, Heart Trust/NTA beat JPS 55-26 in the Senior 'B' League to claim third, while Pan Caribbean got by JF Mills 22-18 in the Junior League, also for third.

Cable & Wireless, meanwhile, clipped ICD Group 26-25 for third in the Intermediate 'A' League, as did NCB 'B' who beat Sagicor 29-22 in the Intermediate 'B' League.

  • C&W vs Digicel in cricket semi-final

Defending champions Cable & Wireless oppose arch-rivals Digicel at Chalmers Avenue today in a semi-final of the Reggae Jammin Business House 50-over cricket league starting at 10 a.m.

This match was originally scheduled for October 12, but had to be postponed due to bad weather.

When the teams met in the Best Dressed Chicken 35-over KO competition at Kensington Park on September 7, home team Digicel won by two wickets, handing Cable & Wireless their first and only defeat of the season.

Now playing at home, Cable & Wireless will prove harder to beat with the likes of new national selectee Yannick Elliott, former Jamaica and West Indies Under-19 player Andre McCarthy, his Melbourne Super League teammates Damion Jacobs and Dave Johnson, as well as Fitzroy Peterkin, coming to rumble.

Digicel will look to former national Under-19 player Jowayne Robinson, Kensington's Ian Dewar, Garfield Moore, O'Brian Palmer and Xavier Scott to derail C&W once again.

Today's other match pits Jamaica Broilers against Windalco in the St. Ann Jamaica Bauxite-sponsored 35-over KO competition at Spring Village, St Catherine.

The two matches played last Sunday were curtailed by rain, hence no results.
